Replacing your car charger for your portable DVD player was less confusing than I thought. Find out why the replacement was better than the original charger.
We do a ton of road-tripping, we’re not a family that sits and relaxes too well. If we’re not heading to the beach then we’re headed to the mountains (yes…New England has it all which is why I love it here).
Anyway – the portable DVD player as any parent knows is a MUST have for road trips or even just going out to eat in order to keep the kids occupied so parents can either relax or focus on the road.
We own a Sylvania Portable DVD Player (model Sdvd9000 ). Recently the car charger cord broke, I think someone either yanked on it too hard it just snapped due to use.
I figured there was probably someone that made replacement cords for portable DVD players. Since we usually leave the DVD player in the car, taking it out each time and charging with the AC adapter really wasn’t an ideal option.
I also didn’t want a ‘generic’ cord that just fit, I assume the amount of volts and amps matter so the DVD player doesn’t fry.

Once I saw it was less than $10 and from glancing at the other listings that were about the same length I simply decided to investigate this one further and purchased it once I saw the excellent reviews.

First Impressions – Size Matters!
I received the cord just in time for a weekend ski trip to Vermont, and was thrilled with the purchase. The length of the cord was as advertised, a solid foot and a half longer than the original car charger.
The cord is well protected with a rubber coating, the original charger was a very flimsy and thin wire, not surprised that it broke at all. This new cord feels very sturdy like it will outlast the DVD player.
I then brought the cord out Highlander and plugged it in. Sure enough it the extra length made it reach the back seat far more comfortably. Then I plugged it into the DVD player after turning on the ignition and sure enough it brought the Sylvania DVD player back to life.
Road Tests
With a few recent road trips to Vermont under our belt the car charging cord got its test. The DVD player worked fine the whole ride, the kids loved that the cord was a little longer and they could put the DVD player on their lap if they wanted to watch a movie.
Personally I love the fact that the cord just feels more durable and is longer for the kids.
Conclusion
Its a great replacement cord for your DVD player, would buy it again in a heartbeat. In fact if I ever buy another new DVD player with a short cord I’ll buy one of these immediately.
